It has been a crazy few days since my last post ( in a happy way!). Since the last post was written in regards to a heavy, real life topic, I decided to focus this next post on my journey to becoming a healthier version of myself.
As I mentioned in my very first fitness post, I purchased a FitBit Charge 2 and was in the process of signing up for personal training. Things have been going really well, although I haven’t started the personal training yet. But I will be within the next week and in the meantime, I’ve taken it upon myself to start choosing healthier food choices, well snack choices.
One of my biggest weaknesses is snacking. I love candy, I love chips. I love it all. So since I started running within the last few weeks, I’ve been trying to pick healthier post-run snacks that don’t make me feel like my run was a wasted effort. Two of my favorite and healthy post-run snack are RX Bars and Daily Harvest smoothies (see picture above). Funny enough, I found out about both through Instagram; ah, the power of social media.
RX Bars are not like your typical protein bars. They don’t have that chalky taste or those sugar substitutes. RX Bars are usually made with ingredients such as: egg whites, almonds, cashews and dates. Obviously, depending on the flavor of the bar, different ingredients will be used. Rest assured that all the ingredients are healthy, recognizable and easy to pronounce. Just like the wrapper says, they’re is no B.S. My favorites are the chocolate sea salt, blueberry and peanut butter. I still have more flavors to try.
Daily Harvest smoothies are so, so, so good. I get a box of six delivered to me every week. All I do is add a cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk to each (you can add whatever liquid you desire) and blend it altogether in 30 seconds. Just like the RX Bars, these smoothies from Daily Harvest are also made with all healthy, recognizable and easy pronouncing ingredients. I highly recommend: cacao + avocado, chocolate + blueberry, cold brew + almond, mango + papaya, mint + cacao, and strawberry + peach.
You have to order Daily Harvest online. If you like their smoothies, they also make overnight oats, chia parfaits, soups and sundaes. I haven’t tried any of those yet but I plan on it. I usually pick up RX Bars at Trader Joe’s. Good thing about these two snacks is you can have them pre or post workout, they taste good and don’t make you feel bad afterwards. I highly recommend them for anyone who is looking for healthier changes.
